Evaluation Question 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Our film's genre is a Crime-comedy this is based on the fact that the characters are supposed to be mastermind criminals that organise bank heists and other 'jobs' later on in the film, all apart form Jacob who is played by George in our film who is supposed to be a comedic character as he is always underprepared and does not understand as to how to be as successful as the other two main characters in the film, who in the film have collected more money than Jacob as he only managed to get £5 and even then it was off the streets.

We introduce our film with an crane shot of Jacob walking down the street and as it eventually has panned all the way up we put on out production company name which is then swiped off by Jacobs hand as he does his hair. The shot after this one is an eyeliner match on the shop that Jacob is planing on robbing this shows the viewer where Jacob is going before he fully moves towards his chosen target. After this Jacob then proceeds to attempt to take the money from the shop and fails but in this first minuet of the film we have done all our titles and introduced all the main characters using snapshots of them which we though would be a good idea as they have done it in other heist films such as snatch. We also used a clear bold text on the snapshots and the opening tiles themselves so it can be easily read by the viewer. Also the upbeat non diegetic music used over the opening scenes is played to resemble the confidence that Jacob is feeling about robbing the store.

In the first minute of the title sequence we also see that Jacob is stereotypically represented as your usual criminal in jeans and a black coat with a balaclava on. This also helps the viewer understand the genre of our film before it has even fully started as in the first show we see a crane shot panning up on Jacob and in the shot we are able to what he is wearing which gives a rough representation of what he is going to do but then this is reinforced later on with the shot of Jacob putting on the balaclava. We also use stereotypical props a bit later on when Mitchell and Louis are talking at the table these props consist of a phone, knife, £2000 in £20 notes, and a £5 note(placed on the table by Jacob). These props are what you would usually expect to see in a crime film and it again reenforces our genre of our film to our audience through the stereotypical props.
